The Lemosho Route is regarded as one of the most scenic and least crowded routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. Known for its panoramic views and varied ecosystems, this route offers climbers the best chance for acclimatization and a higher summit success rate. Starting on the western side of the mountain, the Lemosho Route traverses lush rainforest, vast moorlands, and high-altitude alpine zones before joining the Machame Route. After summiting Uhuru Peak, you’ll enjoy a 2-day safari in Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara.
Arrive in Moshi, Tanzania. Meet your guide for a pre-climb briefing, covering the route details and a gear check. Overnight stay at a hotel in Moshi, resting before the climb.
Drive: After breakfast, drive to Londorossi Gate for registration and permits. Trek: Begin your hike through the lush rainforest. You’ll likely see Colobus monkeys and other wildlife. Ascent: Gain 550 meters in elevation over 3-4 hours of hiking to reach Mti Mkubwa Camp. Meals: Lunch and dinner provided. Overnight: Mti Mkubwa Camp (tented accommodation).
Trek: Continue trekking through the rainforest and then emerge into the moorland zone, with expansive views of the Shira Plateau. Ascent: Gain 960 meters over 6-7 hours as you make your way to Shira 1 Camp. Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided. Overnight: Shira 1 Camp (tented accommodation).
Trek: The day’s hike is relatively short and flat, allowing for acclimatization as you cross the Shira Plateau. Views: Take in stunning views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding landscape. Trek: Start the day by tackling the Barranco Wall, a steep but non-technical climb. Ascent/Descent: Continue trekking through a series of valleys, allowing for further acclimatization. Trek: Ascend to Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit attempt. Views: Enjoy panoramic views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding glaciers. Preparation: After arriving at Barafu Camp, have an early dinner and rest before the midnight summit push. Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided. Overnight: Barafu Camp (tented accommodation).
Summit Attempt: Begin the ascent at midnight, trekking up to Stella Point (5,756m) and continuing to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Uhuru Peak: Arrive at Uhuru Peak around sunrise, experiencing breathtaking views of the glaciers and surrounding landscapes. Descent: After celebrating at the summit, descend back to Barafu Camp for a brief rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp. Total Trek Time: 10-14 hours. Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided. Overnight: Mweka Camp (tented accommodation).
Descent: After breakfast, continue your descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you'll receive your summit certificate. Return: Transfer back to Moshi for a celebration lunch and a well-deserved rest. Meals: Breakfast and lunch provided. Overnight: Optional stay in a hotel in Moshi (not included in the package).
